Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you and your Life Travels!
I know you must be wondering what's going on with Ricardos' Travels...
he hasn't started uploading his Life Travels and DIY Videos yet
- well, some of you anyway.
So, I thought I would let my fellow Life Travels in on my "Goings-On",
and why I haven't got any videos up for you yet
"although, I will soon... I promise".
Of course, I will be uploading a video about all this,
- although, in short
(life is a "B" some times and "stuff" just happens).
As most of you know, I planned to start sharing
my 20+ years of traveling up and down the South East United States
(from Texas, to the Florida Keys to Canada and the Great Lakes)
on my Photograph Trips, cowboy and tent camping,
bushcrafting, hiking, etc.. and my Homesteading
and RV / Automotive DIY Projects
(the problem is - events in my life threw me a huge curveball).
The Unthinkable, the Impossible, the Never in a Million Years happened.
Imagine if you lost 20 years of your life in the flash of a second.
Every photograph, every video documenting
20-30 years of your Life Travels - Everything..!
Well, I don't have to "Imagine" - that's just what happened to me.
Yes, way - it really happened... and in a flash of a second or less.
I can hear everyone now - "Why didn't you backup everything?".
In my video, I'll go into more detail - although, I was backing up in
multiple places... even in the cloud.
I backed up to the cloud + not 1 but 2 external hard drives.
Yes, I know - How could I have lost it all with so many backups - right?
In short... both external backups failed at the same moment in time
(that's were the Unthinkable, the Impossible,
the Never in a Million Years comes in).
To make matters even worse, I had been running out of storage space
on my computer and my cloud storage for years
(so I was not keeping any new data "Photos or Videos"
on my internal hard drive or on my cloud storage
because they didn't have any room left) - I kept telling
myself "I will upgrade someday to a larger internal hard drive
and I will bite the bullet and spend the money
for larger cloud storage someday as well".
I knew I had 2 separate external hard drives holding all my data
- so my "some-day" kept getting pushed back
- a month became a year,
and a year became 5 -10 years.
(I said to myself - Both hard drives will never fail at the same time)
Then the Unthinkable Happened..!
So, you can probably see my problem - not only did I just lose the
far majority of my Life Travels - the only data I still have
is 10+ years old taken with 2-megapixel video cameras,
and 8-megapixel photo cameras "not the best quality, to say the least"
and nowhere good enough to put up on YouTube.
For the past 8-10 weeks, I've been attempting to recover bits and
pieces of my data from old memory cards and very old external backups
- it is a very-very slow and cumbersome process.
Now you can see I've had a bit of a setback,
and why I haven't started uploading my Life Travel Videos.
Please keep checking back - I have started several new Projects from
Traveling in Georgia and a Micro RV Custom Build, to How-to-Power your
devices on the road without Solar or Hookups, and some new DIY
- RV / Auto Maintenance and Repair Projects.
I now have a rock-solid data backup solution "I have learned my
lesson" - So, I am excited about the future and looking forward to
sharing all my Goings-On and Life Travels with you soon.
By sharing my Data Loss Nightmare - I hope to help everyone realize
how vulnerable computers and hard drives are, and to backup their
precious and irreplaceable data in as many places as they can - to
prevent the unthinkable from happening as it did with me.
